Applications Architect

POSITION SUMMARY: The Applications Architect will play an important role in the design and analysis of software projects. The Application Architect will create new applications or improve existing applications, run software tests, develop product prototypes and create technical documents and manuals relating to application development. The Application Architect will plan, design, and implement advanced architecture to meet business, security, and compliance requirements. This role will evaluate application technologies and make recommendations for best uses for the company.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead the architecture design and support for the enterprise application portfolio, including third-party and custom applications for enterprise-wide capabilities o Document management and collaboration o Finance and HR systems • Recommend alternatives for how to migrate the application portfolio to best align with business needs and to optimize maintainability and performance • Lead evaluation of purchased software alternatives o Human Capital Management o Finance Application Suites • Architect the composition of custom-built solutions • Ensure technical designs comply with architecture guiding principles • Work with other architects on enterprise-wide IT strategies and technologies • Design solutions for high availability and disaster recovery • Evaluate and recommend application development and support technologies • Provide guidance, direction and support to application development and technical designers • Train other team members in areas of programming and software development including: Networking, System Management, Cloud, VMWare, Citrix, Load Balancers, Storage and backup, IT Security, and Enterprise Applications such as Exchange, Active Directory, Identity Management, Enterprise Monitoring, Web Application and Middleware Servers • Additional duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for supervising multiple projects.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred • 8+ years progressive IT business unit(s), within Infrastructure or Architecture experience required • 5+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect) • Prior managerial/supervisory experience preferred • Technical knowledge and experience with computing platforms and managing those technologies – servers, high availability, backup/recovery, operating systems, anti-malware, patching, e-mail, and associated security • Experience with HP servers, Windows, Active Directory, DNS, Exchange, Citrix, WSUS, Symantec Antivirus, Lync, Dell/SonicWall/Aventail, VMWare, Unix, iSeries, Linux, SQL Server, Oracle, NetBackup, security certificates, and system monitoring tools preferred • Excellent overall knowledge of Enterprise Level technologies • Experience in guiding and mentoring resources in a matrix organization that includes technical and business users/roles • Demonstrated ability to evolve and improve application/service offerings that align with company goals and deliver desired benefits • Experience with SDLC methodologies preferred • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning) • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting General Nutrition Centers, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer
