Data Engineer II

Purpose: The Data Engineer’s primary role will be to expand the company’s use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. This role will require integrating data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements to support our information needs. The Data Engineer will achieve this by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models for enterprise-level applications and systems. The engineer will interact with data analysts and consumers to optimize data for analysis.

Responsibilities: • Develop, package and deliver new service offerings related to analytics and enterprise data management. • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders. • Create short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap. • Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata; take steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity. • Consult with analysts and end users on business needs, translate those needs into data analytics/reporting requirements and use those requirements to build an enterprise data access layer. • Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards. • Select and implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals. • Act as a leader & advocate of data management Coaching, training, & career development to staff. • Other duties as assigned to include: Documentation, team meetings, project work as assigned and other administrative tasks. Scope: Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field. Primary Focus is on data preparation for daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Responsibilities are generally tactical in nature and work is typically complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Candidate should have well established capabilities and act as a mentor and coach to less experienced staff.

Education/Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree. • 10+ years of experience. • 5+ years experience in data management. • Experience working in Azure, AWS or other cloud technologies required. • Experience with Python, R or similar programming languages. • Experience working with Data Lakes. • Some experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack. • Experience with Denodo or other data virtualization software a plus. • Utility industry experience and knowledge a plus. Work Location: • Onsite, driven primarily by company and department reasons • Work is fully location independent • Work is primarily performed independently and when collaboration is needed it can be done effectively virtually.

Physical Requirements: Normal office environment.
