DBA (Database Manager)

The Database Manager provides database applications by developing architecture, programming, troubleshooting, and security. This position will be responsible for driving operational best practices, assuring the achievement of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensuring stable and efficient service for our stakeholders. The Manager, Database Infrastructure will work with the business stakeholders, appropriate technology teams, vendors and Client’s leadership to ensure that our Database services meet the Firm’s needs and strategic plans. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas. The Database Manager will be responsible for assisting with contract negotiations and management of certain third-party vendors.


  • Maintains database performance by setting and enforcing standards and controls.
  • Proactively develop and improves processes for automated monitoring and intervention, preventing customer impact
  • Proactively review performance statistics and alerts, recommending changes for tuning databases, servers, and storage configurations, as well as application SQL
  • Assume ownership of database related issues; pursues problem resolution and root cause analysis
  • Coordinate interaction with customers in critical database problem situations
  • Develop a strategy for migrating to new releases of implemented database services
  • Ensures database backup mechanisms are effective and reliable
  • Supervise a 24X7 on-call rotation, as well as providing Subject Matter Expert support to the on-call DBA as needed
  • Effectively define and follow change management guidelines for all the changes made to the production and pre-production databases
  • Secures databases by developing appropriate policies, procedures, and controls in accordance with required GDPR standards
  • Design, evaluate, and implement databases with respect to Client’s applications using various database applications such as MS SQL Server and Couchbase
  • Analyze and determine informational needs and elements, data relations and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities of Client application development designs
  • Define logical attributes and inter-relationships and design data structures to accommodate database production, storage, maintenance, and accessibility
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and standards
  • Act as a technical project lead or provide work for lower level employees

Education & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience with designing, evaluating, and implementing databases and database applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of database administrators
  • Experience with relational and noSQL databases (MS SQL Server, Couchbase)
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle
  • BA or BS or higher degree
  • Ability to work directly with clients and other team members
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 5+ years of open source software experience
  • Expert level proficiency in C/C++/Java/Go – environments
  • Development experience with SQL or other language features for SQL or NoSQL database systems
  • Experience with packaged downloadable software
  • Understanding query processing and distributed database systems
  • Development experience in relational or NoSQL or XML database systems
