Director of Data Engineering

Overview As a Director, Data Engineering, you will play a key role in architecting, developing, and maintaining our next generation data platform in a fast-paced, agile environment. Partnering closely with product, operations, and engineering teams, you will be responsible for delivering data-driven solutions to complex business problems and also serve as a trusted technical advisor to the team. You will be expected to be continually innovating and designing new ways to deliver against our product roadmap and have plenty of fascinating problems to solve (at scale). Responsibilities • Engineering solutions to aggregate and automate large-scale data flows from varying sources • Working as part of a cross-functional team to build scalable data solutions and continually align the data roadmap to the needs of the business and the product • Serving as the team’s subject-matter-expert to the full suite of data tools and resources • Work with product owners in an agile environment to analyze requirements and translate them into functioning software • Provide mentoring to and collaboration with other team members • Provide technical leadership on projects Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related quantitative fields or equivalent experience · 10+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related field(i.e., Business Intelligence Engineer, Datawarehouse Developer, Data Scientist, etc.) with a strong track record of working with large datasets · Expertise in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing plus hands-on experience with different data warehouse and processing technologies such as AWS Redshift, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Spark, etc. · Hands-on experience with cloud computing and Linux based systems · Demonstrable skills and experience using SQL with large data sets (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, Redshift) · Experience with AWS technologies including Redshift, RDS, S3 · Proven track record of successful communication of data infrastructure, data models, and data engineering solutions through written communication, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams · Shows curiosity and an ability to learn quickly, especially new technology and processes · Approaches all work with a team-based/collaborative orientation Bonus Points · Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative fields · Hands-on experience in real-time/streaming analytics · Experience with AWS technologies including EMR, Kinesis · Experience with Hadoop or other map/reduce “big data” systems and services · Hands-on experience with benefits data · Expertise in managing non-functional infrastructure requirements such as scalability, reliability, durability, availability, backups, and so on
