Executive Communications Specialist (Hybrid)

We seek an experienced communication strategist and storyteller to raise awareness — among leadership and external audiences — of the role of technology in accomplishing our mission. The ideal candidate has a track record of executive communication success, combined with a passion for technology. Preference given to candidates interested or knowledgeable in artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as a well-founded understanding of higher education. The successful candidate will play an important role in strategically shaping and amplifying the voice of the CIO and, through this work, will directly advance key leadership priorities and aid in positioning us as a thought leader and trusted partner in advancing the innovative use of technology to tackle problems affecting humankind.
Responsibilities: • Produce a variety of content and marketing, including email messages, customer success stories, executive updates, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, by-line articles, and other content suitable for senior-level presentation and consumption • Work closely with the department’s senior leadership team and internal subject matter experts to lead the development of visually aesthetic quarterly and annual reports for leadership • Conduct research to verify accuracy of all content & ensure alignment with the strategic plan • Maintain a cohesive voice appropriate to each platform, adhere to AP and department style guidelines, and ensure accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. • Collaborate with the IT Communications and Communications teams to ensure that messaging is consistent and aligns with the mission, brand, and reputation as a leading public research institution.

They will also be a self-motivated, strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail who takes initiative to move forward and seek information, remains positive and decisive with a bias toward action during times of ambiguity, and approaches feedback with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
Specific qualifications include: • Expertise in creating and disseminating high-visibility executive communications through a wide lens, anticipating audience questions and potential perceptions of messages among the community, stakeholders, affiliate organizations, strategic vendors, legislators, local and national media, and the public at large • Experience working with technical leads to collate information and build narratives • Critical thinking, sound judgement and problem-solving skills, outstanding attention to detail, and excellent organization skills for producing quality material with a high degree of independence • Strong copywriting, proofreading, and editing skills with a knack for simplifying complex information • The ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with care, a professional demeanor, and excellent ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization while prioritizing and adapting to continuously changing circumstances • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Experience. Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a comparable field from an accredited college or university — along with at least five years of executive communications experience. A background writing about technology for non-technical audiences is also strongly preferred.
