IT Endpoint Consultant

SUMMARY: We are seeking an IT Endpoint Consultant for the Client Services division on the Endpoint team. This is a technical position and duties include the following: support of servers, workstations, and applications for one or more departments. This position requires a broad knowledge of Windows based operating systems, Microsoft Outlook used in conjunction with Exchange servers, and the ability to troubleshoot general hardware and software issues. Macintosh, Linux, mobile/handheld device configuration, and web development skills are also particularly valuable. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and/or maintaining documentation required for each supported system. The incumbent must have the ability to provide exceptional customer service, be willing to assist peers while facilitating the success of the Endpoint team, manage tasks efficiently while meeting deadlines, and possess excellent communication skills. DUTIES: Provide onsite Desktop/Server support, troubleshooting and installation services to departments. Must fully understand the complex networks and systems. Technical problems must be assessed and resolved effectively. Work must be completed without close supervision. Must be dependable and responsive to customer needs. Must be able to effectively convey complex technical information to users of all skill levels. Meet with offices, analyze information technology needs and recommend hardware and software solutions. Work must reflect maximum accuracy. Requires excellent oral and written communications. Provide project management to implement recommended hardware and software solutions. Must meet deadlines. Implemented solutions must follow department standards. Must be very organized. Must participate in team improvement efforts including collaboration and support to peers, team meetings, and team standard operating procedures (SOP). Must maintain professional working relationship with peers. Must be engaged in team initiatives. Must follow up on all assigned tasks. Must fully document implemented solutions and maintain up to date documentation as technology changes. Must provide written weekly and monthly reports to CSSD management and customer departments. Documentation is complete and up to date. Must have strong written, communication skills and reports must be accurate and timely. Other duties as assigned. Must be concise to ensure proper information to administrative and executive staff. Excellent planning skills and ability to multi-task. Manage multiple priorities. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Critical that the individual understand the strategic direction for technology and the goals of the organization. Requires organizational and time management skills. Quickly prioritize tasks and ability to quickly adjust to changes in work tasks. Respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner. OTHER DUTIES: Communications are conducted via e-mail, departmental mail, meetings, and phone. Work must be completed without close supervision. This position requires excellent analytical & planning skills in conjunction with an extensive technical background. The ability to work independently to solve complex technical problems is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Education Level Required: Associate. 3-5 years of experience Combination of education, experience and/or industry certifications will be considered in lieu of listed education/experience levels.

CERTIFICATIONS: Preferred but not required: – CompTIA A+ Certification – Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator – Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) certification

DECISION MAKING: Create and establish naming conventions for system files, documentation, and configuration settings following established standards. Analyze business functions and make recommendations on improvements. Problem resolution in functional design of IT workflows. Translate technical material into information that is easily understood by customers. Develop IT technology strategy/roadmap for Pitt IT departments. Will be responsible for determining technology policy and direction for departments and units. Must be able to make decisions on when to engage vendors or management with service desk cases and project work, including escalation. May need to recommend technology budget amount & what to spend it on. Will forecast a technology roadmap & propose both long and short-term solutions and goal planning. Independent troubleshooting to properly diagnose problems and determine the best course of action to resolve issues. Determine/recommend technology solutions based on needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position is responsible for maintaining/configuring computing equipment located in multiple locations. This position requires and extensive knowledge of operating systems and LAN technology. Must be able to function with standard PC and Mac equipment. Must be able to use standard telephony system applications and productivity software applications. This is not a sedentary position — frequent travel across campus from building to building. Individual will be responsible for installation of office technology equipment all over campus as well as on-going trouble shooting and will also conduct training presentations.
