Junior Speech Architect

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Job Type: Full Time / Permanent

Seeks an outstanding software architect with deep research and development in automatic speech recognition(ASR) engine. As a member of our research and development team, you will develop and evaluate cutting edge speech recognition algorithms, and help integrate them into our hardware device. You must have a strong track record of technological innovation and creative thinking, and enjoy the challenge of advancing state-of-the-art systems. Essential attributes and competencies include: excellence in scientific thinking and execution. The ability to define and pursue experimental definition, conduct investigations, development and ultimately be responsible for the speech recognition performance of key products and services. The ability to work well in a small team environment is a must. Strong programming and analytical skills are expected.


  • Work with hardware team members to introduce new product features into our hardware-accelerated architecture
  • Work with development engineers to ensure a high quality implementation of algorithms
  • Remain current in speech recognition tools and techniques.

Education & Experience:

  • Masters in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
  • 3+ years on development or research in speech recognition systems
  • Expertise in WFSTs, lattice processing, Viterbi decoding is essential
  • Expertise in neural net (DNN / LSTM / CNN / TDNN) is preferable
  • Expertise in one ore more of the following fields: acoustic modeling, discriminative training, statistical language; modeling, finite state transducers, robust syntactic parsing
  • Deep familiarity with one or more of Sphinx / HTK / Kaldi / EESEN / Julius is a plus
  • Programming languages skills: C/C++/Python, preferably with system programming background
  • Solid NVIDIA CUDA programming skills are beneficial
  • Aptitude to understand a complex piece of software in C/C++/Python
  • Skills of using collaborative tools such as github/CVS/subversion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with excellent time and project management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps
  • Experience in working in small research teams is a plus
  • Ability to formulate and carry out research and development plans
  • Ability to function in a small team and while working with related R&D teams
  • Ability to create deliverables (models) according to schedule
  • Adaptable, able to manage multiple processes simultaneously
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel within North America is a plus
