Lead UX Designer

We are seeking a Lead UX Designer who is a stellar individual contributor that leads through clear communication and cross-functional relationship building. This role will be pivotal in driving the future experience of our Educator app as well as having a hand in launching new lessons and activities for young children (PK-2nd Grade). In addition to being an expert UI designer, this person will have experience leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data to inform product design decisions, as well as the ability to communicate their insights clearly. Ultimately, this person will align the whole team – Product Managers, Developers, Visual Designers, and Leadership team members behind the most effective design solutions and follow through on execution. The right candidate will have both a portfolio full of great designs and a proven track record of getting things done.

What This Role Will Do: • Work closely with Design Directors, Product Managers, and Developers to identify the best product solutions and make sure they are executed at the highest quality possible • Lead projects for which you identify and create the UX research and design deliverables that are needed to accomplish the established goals in the time frame allotted • Strategize, design, and execute research that will effectively inform design decisions and priorities – including, but not limited to, user interviews, competitive audits, usability testing, gathering and synthesizing quant data • Take a flexible approach to design projects, using all the design deliverables at your disposal to discover and communicate solutions – including, but not limited to, sketches, wireframes, user flows, and prototypes • Support the product managers in figuring out complex business logic and writing functional specs for the dev team • Work on multiple projects simultaneously • Develop a deep understanding of the platform, it’s role in educators’ and students’ lives, then use that to execute effectively on individual projects – both big and small • Create relationships across the company in order to develop and keep current on your understanding of how we are being used by educators and what challenges the company is facing as it grows and expands • Coach more junior team members in the process of executing on day-to-day projects • Dedicate yourself to creating a shared vision of the best design solutions amongst all team members, including a willingness to rethink solutions based on input from a variety of stakeholders • Identify and deliver continuous improvements to internal processes and systems • Help maintain, expand, and advocate usage of our design system, templates, and style guides • Stay current on best practices and advances in education technology and the product design field.

What You’ll Bring To The Role: • Portfolio demonstrating exceptional quality and experience in UX/Product design • The ability to pivot between big picture systems thinking and best in class UI design, as well as an understanding of how individual decisions affect larger complex systems • Fluency with best practices in UI and interaction design, including a solid understanding of the digital product design process and its limitations • Ability to create design solutions with adherence to business, user and company goals • Ability to own and run projects from concept to completion with little supervision • Professional level knowledge of current design software such as Sketch, Figma, InVision, Adobe CC, Zeplin • Prototyping skills in program of your choice • Ability to design cross-platform with focus on desktop & tablet • Experience designing reports and data visualizations • Highly refined active listening skills, in addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills • Passion for educational technology and math • A plus if you have experience designing for educators or children and/or knowledge of accessibility best practices • A commitment to our mission of providing an exceptional education to all children • A desire to join an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment at a high-growth organization • The willingness to comply with the company vaccination (subject to legally valid exemptions) and Personal Protective Equipment policies.

Location: This role is remote, but you may be asked to travel as needed for business or for team building purposes.
