JOB TITLE: Network Administrator

REPORTS TO: Director of Information Technology & Strategic Director of Design

JOB SUMMARY: This is a shared position between the Director of Information Technology & the Strategic Director of Design. Approximately half of the time will be spent in Network Administration related responsibilities & half of the time will be spent in Educational Technology Design and Support. The selected candidate will be working closely with the Director of Information Technology and the Strategic Director of Design in each of their areas of work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  IN THE AREA OF NETWORK ADMINISTRATION – we are seeking a colleague who loves to learn and who can work collaboratively with the Director of Information Technology to support the following areas: 1. Install or oversee new hardware and software installations – servers running different iterations of Windows Server and laptops currently running Windows 10 Pro 2. Manage hardware and software upgrades for servers and laptops 3. Routine network troubleshooting and maintenance on network hardware, laptops, and software 4. Provide technical support to internal staff, external web and database developers, and other public users of our data collection web applications 5. Manage network device patching for laptops and servers on a schedule 6. Manage network printers and troubleshoot when required 7. Manage network wireless access and troubleshoot when required 8. Manage virtual infrastructure 9. Monitor virtual infrastructure (VMWare) and notify Director of Information Technology of any issues 10. Assist in network website design or technical support as required 11. Monitor storage arrays, network switching, wireless access points, and troubleshoot or upgrade when required 12. Learn the functions of the ATS Institutional Database and provide support to end users as required. 13. Run various institutional reports as required 14. Work with Manager of Data and Reporting as needed for database updates, troubleshooting, entering, resolving, and QA’ing of trouble tickets. 15. Act as liaison between design consultants and users by analyzing information, assessing output requirements, developing recommendations, preparing general and detailed design specifications, assessing data acquisition and programming techniques and controls 16. Along with the Director of Student Information & Organizational Evaluation, the Network Administrator manages data for student database systems (Entering Student Questionnaire, Graduating Student Questionnaire, Alum Questionnaire).   IN THE AREA OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY – we are seeking a colleague who loves to learn and who can work collaboratively with the existing educational design team to: 1. Develop an open, curious, and responsive style of customer service 2. Support the basic educational technology needs of users 3. Support the educational technology tools and infrastructure of the organization Specific duties in the area of educational technology will include, but not be limited to, the following: 1. Monitor the design support ticket system (Zendesk); resolve or assign tickets as appropriate 2. Assist users as they build and implement LMS courses and modules (Canvas) 3. Support and troubleshoot LMS courses and accounts 4. Support and expand use of tools for online engagement (Padlet, Mentimeter,, etc.) 5. Create training and maintain/update educational technology documentation for users 6. Provide basic LMS maintenance and administration 7. Participate in design team meetings and ATS events as requested Qualifications: • Must have at least 5-years of verifiable work experience as a network administrator • Excellent communication skills, both asynchronously and synchronously • Experience with Canvas Learning Management System or other LMS system • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and Zoom • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and basic web design • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Must understand and possess the ability to apply effective project management practices and system development techniques • A high level of self-initiative • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to interface with personnel at all levels both internally and externally Additional Duties: As appropriately assigned or requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Manager of IT & Educational Technology carries out managerial and administrative responsibilities in accordance with our Employee Handbook, policies, and applicable laws.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Representative physical demands of the position include standing; walking; sitting; keyboarding; talking, listening, occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. The position also requires close and distance vision ability, and the physical abilities necessary occasionally to travel via public carrier.

INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS: Representative intellectual demands include the ability to work effectively with a highly educated and diverse constituency, perform complex IT and data analysis, be able to think creatively and analytically, manage complex programmatic agenda across multiple projects, and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a broad constituency.
