Senior Accountant Land

Overview: Responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, homebuilding reporting, land acquisition accounting and related wire requests, managing budgets with division leaders and preparing and reviewing month-end reports.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Own and update schedules used to track deposits placed with outside parties for future Land Acquisition • Conduct monthly meetings with division management regarding pre-developmental land acquisition costs and ensure that capitalization per lot is adequate and allocated evenly • Ensure pre-developmental land acquisition costs abide by internal policies regarding spending limitations • Manage the weekly lot/land purchase process to include all reconciliations, cross checking HUD purchase price and associated costs, then recording the journal entries across all of our divisions • Quarterly FIN46 analysis which analyzes the companies’ future Lot takedown commitments and financial obligation to those commitments • Ownership of the monthly budget review process to include job costing, and lot transfers of internally developed communities to the homebuilding segment of the business • Corporate point of contact regarding questions from the Divisions on how to properly submit requests for Lot repurchases from a Land Banker • Document and designate with certain coding lots that have been purchased by said Land Banker in multiple systems to help with overall reconciliation process • Record and handle any Lot terminations, refunds, or Sales of Lots • Work with our internal reporting team to create custom reports providing valuable information to Management • Monthly preparation of Financial Statements for related party joint ventures that sell lots to the homebuilding segment of the business • Maintain sound accounting methods and systems in accordance with corporate policies and procedures • Play a key role in responding to requests from external auditors and coordinating audit responses from others in the organization • Assist with new accounting system design and testing process.
Education, Experience and additional requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (CPA preferred) • 5-7 years minimum related accounting and financial experience required. Homebuilding, real estate, or commercial land experience a plus • Advanced computer skills experience required– Microsoft Word and Excel (Vlookup and Pivot Tables) • Excellent attention to detail • Ability to multi-task, coordinate meetings with others and meet deadlines • Strong knowledge of GAAP • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with all levels of management • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to manage their workload and handle competing priorities.
