Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is based out of corporate headquarters. This position will be responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, homebuilding reporting, land acquisition accounting and related wire requests, managing budgets with division leaders and prepare and review month-end reports.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Manage and execute timely month end close procedures including monthly revenue entries, various month-end accruals, allocation entries, and elimination entries • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations to ensure all financial statement information is appropriately stated (ie. recognized timely) and presented in a detailed and easy to understand format • Ownership of the monthly budget review process to include job costing, and lot transfers of development properties • Conduct meetings with division management regarding pre-developmental land acquisition costs and ensure that capitalization per lot is adequate and allocated evenly • Manage the weekly lot/land purchase process • Run month-end corporate reports and review for accuracy • Responsible for reconciliation of all company cash accounts and daily preparation of cash journal entries reflecting activity • Deposit checks using the remote deposit system in accordance with policies and procedures • Review and record wire transfers • Record commercial credit card activity and reconcile commercial card accounts • Analyze company self-funded medical insurance vs actual medical claims and record necessary adjustments on a monthly basis • Maintain sound accounting methods and systems in accordance with corporate policies and procedures • Complete technical accounting research and prepare technical accounting memos for applicable issues. • Play a key role in responding to requests from external auditors and coordinating audit responses from others in the organization • Assist with new accounting system design and testing process • Liaison with division management servicing their requests of the accounting department • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required. • Lead and mentor staff level accountants.

Education, Experience and additional requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (CPA preferred) • 5-7 years related accounting and financial experience, homebuilding experience a plus • Advanced computer skills experience required– Microsoft Word and Excel • Excellent attention to detail • Ability to multi-task, coordinate meetings with others and meet deadlines • Strong knowledge of GAAP • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with all levels of management • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to manage their workload and handle competing priorities.
