Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Job Type: Full Time / Permanent


  • Contribute to improvements in unit testing coverage, design test framework, develop test suites, expand automated testing harness and automate scenarios/cases
  • Analyze specifications to gain a full understanding of system requirements
  • Perform functional, performance, load, compatibility, integration, and security testing
  • Maintain and update regression test suites
  • Develop automated test cases based on manual test documentation
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts utilizing Selenium and REST-Assured
  • Perform peer reviews of test scripts
  • Maintain and update our test automation frameworks
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and users throughout project lifecycles
  • Develop domain expertise. Participate in functional and technical specification reviews to provide domain expertise and testability input
  • Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to management
  • Provide second-level production support. Diagnose severity of problems and take a leadership role in problem resolution
  • Accurately and thoroughly document defects discovered during testing
  • Verify production deployments of software updates
  • Support User Acceptance Testing

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum: 2 year degree in Computer Science or an equivalent study, or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: 4 year degree in Computer Science or an equivalent study
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience in software QA testing, including writing test cases
  • Prior use of Bug Tracking Systems
  • Familiarity with different types of testing (black box, functional, regression, sanity, compatibility, integration, stress, load)
  • Experience with Selenium test automation
  • Ability to report software defects accurately and thoroughly
  • Ability to understand complex system logic
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word)
  • SQL Skills (select records, write to tables, execute basic queries)
  • Understanding of basic mechanics of software systems (3 tier architecture, HTTP, “Web 2.0”)
  • Familiar with the software development process (SDLC) lifecycle
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work occasional overtime for critical software releases
