Systems Administrator and Support Specialist
Job Type: Full Time / Permanent
The System Administrator and Support Specialist will be responsible for organizing, modifying, and supporting computer systems. He or she will also assist in providing functionality of LAN, WAN, Internet and Intranet systems, and network segments. This position is located primarily out of our Houston office and reports directly to the Senior Manager of Information Technology.
Essential Responsibilities: • Support LAN, WAN, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems. • Assist in maintaining CommVault backup and replication environments. • VMware vSphere 6.0 and later and virtualization • Troubleshoot problems reported by users. • Make recommendations for future upgrades. • Maintain the integrity of the network, server deployment, and security. • Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware • Ensure network connectivity throughout a company’s LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations. • Maintain system uptime 24x7x365. • Active Directory and Group policy management and support. • Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers. • Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, FTP Servers, Web Servers and Mail Servers. • Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches. • Administer SentinelOne Antivirus Software • Administer Mobility VPN Client for mobile connections to vessel computers • Assisting with the development and support of in-house applications • Traveling to facilities and boats to provide support of IT equipment when required • Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems that provide corporate support to the business • Assist manager with daily/weekly/monthly tasks or projects when needed • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies • Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Educational And Job Qualifications: • Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field. • Must have experience in MS Windows 10/11 environment, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, VMware, DNS, Active Directory, Azure AD, Sharepoint, Group Policy, and Disaster Recovery. • Familiar with Microsoft SQL 2016 or later • Ability to write basic SQL queries • Ability to support after hours and weekends (24x7x365). • Ability to be on an on-call rotation. Will be dependent on IT staff and is subject to change to fit the needs of the department. • Ability to travel both locally and out of state. This would require air travel. • Ability to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (Government Issued ID which requires a clean background check) • Must have a basic understanding of networking. • Exceptional written and oral communication skills • Ability to interact effectively with individuals and groups of varying skill and functional levels • Effective problem resolution skills with IT systems and individuals.
Preferred Educational And Job Qualifications: • IT Certifications are a plus. • Electrical knowledge and the ability to read electrical schematics is a plus. • Leadership skills • Networking skills • Security skills • High working knowledge of SQL and query writing • Experience with supporting Apple iPhones • Experience with supporting mobile devices using a Mobile Device Management System.
Physical Capabilities: • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. • Ability to work long hours in the event of IT emergencies.
