Tableau Developer / Administrator

The Tableau Developer / Administrator would manage all aspects of Tableau development, user support and administration, while providing oversight and guidance of data analytics and visualization. The role would ensure that support and direction of all data analytics that utilize the Tableau tool aligns with business and technical roadmaps. It would also provide strategic and tactical guidance on any data visualization capabilities. The candidate would be accountable for the continuous improvement of the data analytics, coupled with a thorough understanding of business intelligence strategy and processes.

Primary Success Factors: • Develops and evaluates business requirements to assist in defining analytical solutions. • Works collaboratively with data analysts to define ETL processes to support data visualization requirements in support of business analytics • Creates interactive stories, dashboards and visualizations leveraging Tableau. • Collaborates with business stakeholders and analyze user requirements. • Builds and supports any required data extracts required for solutions. • Creates functional and technical documentation related to business intelligence solution. • Reports Tableau experience on an Oracle Platform. • Reviews and validates the development of test data and scenarios, and incorporates extensive knowledge of the Agency’s business rules. • Develops or acquires test data and initiates tests to determine the accuracy of reporting logic to produce desired results. • Meets with users for clarification and elaboration to define a problem and conceptualize a development plan. • Recognizes, gathers, and analyzes facts and devises solutions and alternatives. • Works collaboratively with DBAs and Data Architects to facilitate modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the reporting needs of the customer. • Works with Developers and DBA to create and maintain design standards. • Manages all aspects of licensing to ensure compliance with the vendor software. • Leads internal Tableau user group to facilitate collaboration.

Required Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited field or equivalent experience • At least 5 years of progressive, hands-on experience in business intelligence, reporting/analytics • At least three years of continuous, focused experience in the building, customizing and publishing of Tableau interactive reports, visualizations, dashboards and stories • Strong experience with Tableau (Tableau Desktop accepted, Tableau Server a plus) • Intermediate knowledge of SQL • Strong interpersonal skills and proven experience in building successful partnerships with business and technical groups • Working proficiency with complex data from multiple data sources and building dashboards • Demonstrated ability to understand new datasets and data structures • Knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles and practice • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment • Ability to creatively take on new challenges and work outside their comfort zone • Highly self-motivated to deliver both independently and with strong team collaboration • Tableau certifications are a plus • Experience with various software delivery methodologies and specifically Agile/Scrum a plus • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and seven or more years of relevant experience will be considered for an alternative role.
