Technical Writer

Job Summary: Create technical documentation for software. The intended audience will be a technical audience: mostly software architects and engineers. The candidate will work closely with software developers, architects, and other technical subject matter experts to gain a full understanding of the systems from the inside out. Then, the candidate will draft formal system documentation, including diagrams and APIs. The successful candidate will have skills in graphics, Web design, and basic principles of programming including API design.
Responsibilities: • Effectively employ industry-standard documentation software, such as word processing, Web design, graphic design, and document management systems • Work with developers and analysts to understand the implementation of complex software products • Participate in design sessions and discovery for documentation solutions of complex projects • Gather product design information from the developers and ascertain situational context from the analysts to supply documentation appropriate to the specifications of the task • Produce supporting documentation for programming code, including operations procedures for maintenance of interface and trouble-shooting documentation for support and technical documentation for the interface and development teams • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational and Knowledge Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent relevant experience • 5 years of professional experience in technical writing, technical communications, and product documentation, for complex software products required. • Firsthand experience developing complex software a plus. • Experience with educational, training, or awareness program development and management. Proficiency with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, OmniGraffle, and other drafting tools, Swagger and/or related API documentation.
