Technical Writer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Job Type: Full Time / Permanent

The Technical Writer will analyze system new feature and enhancement requirements and demonstrate in online help and instructional guide content how company solutions address customer needs. The selected candidate will possess high levels of motivation, self-direction and professionalism in working closely with Product Management and various subject matter experts to write, edit and manage a variety of projects across a full spectrum of channels.

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with Product Management, Subject Matter Experts, Quality Assurance, Client Services, Development, Engineering and other staff to create customer-facing and internal education content
  • Write, edit and format monthly and quarterly release notes
  • Write, edit and format online help project content to coincide with application updates
  • Write, edit and format key internal documentation as requested
  • Edit and update data import templates as assigned
  • Create and format document templates
  • Review and investigate application features, enhancements, known issues and resolved issues to write customer-facing content
  • Ensure consistency in instructional content and naming conventions; proofread
  • Adhere to company Marketing branding guidelines
  • Update and upload the latest versions of reference guides, release notes and import templates
  • Meet or exceed deadlines for releases to the application test and production environment and other documentation
  • Learn company software, maintain application knowledge and hands-on proficiency of those solutions
  • Report project status to Vice-President of Product Management and other stakeholders

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing / Technical Writing, Editing, Business Communications / Professional Writing (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years technical writing / editing experience, preferably within the web-based / SaaS software industry
  • Excellent, proactive communication skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to initiate interactions with Product Management, Client Services, Quality Assurance, Development and Engineering staff when necessary
  • Strong ability to adapt communications to varied audiences, both internal and external
  • Proven track record of translating complex concepts into easy-to-understand, user-focused content
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
